One more for the road

I’ve never been this unprepared for a long walk but we are strapping on our boots and heading out once again. It’s better to do it now rather than for me to try it again ten years from now. It should be a bit easier than previous walks with a shorter route, shorter mileage days and on a less demanding route. We will also use a backpack forwarding service as we have realized that our bags are never given a Compostela at the end of the walk whether they were carried by us or they travelled the whole way in a delivery van.

Regarding being unprepared, after the troubles we encountered last year, I was not confident that we would be walking again. Melanie first brought up the subject of another Camino a few months ago but we figured it would have to be the Portugués Way. Still, so many things have happened this year with travel mishaps and health issues, I still doubted we would go – but we are. It was only confirmed about a week ago when I booked the flights. Between now and Saturday, I guess I’ll need to start training. I also have to set up the blog, plan the other bits of travel and logistics, find my gear and replace all the stuff with holes, get the house ready to be vacant, etc. There are a million chores to do before we go. In the meantime, we also have a date with the Pope on Thursday that will take up at least a half day.

Despite everything, it will be good to be on the road. It always is.
