Today’s walk was simple. We had a fairy flat walk out of Burgos, about 11km to Tardajos then 2km more to the first village on the edge of the Meseta, Rabé de las Calzadas. After that, we had our only climb of the day before a steep drop down to the plains and the town of Hornillos.
We left our hotel at 6:50am and we were surprised not to find a cafe open while leaving that big city. The closest we came was a small bakery without seats. There was no chance of Melanie getting tostados and coffee there. We should have stopped there though, the next opportunity for food was in Tardajos. At about the 4km mark, it was obvious we weren’t going to get anything but it took me another kilometer to get up the courage to tell Melanie. Luckily, she took the news like a pro.
Editor’s note – I just finished tying this whole darn post and a I was putting it into WordPress, I somehow lost the last four paragraphs. I am far too tired to rewrite them. Sorry about that.
